Paul describes a real conflict between the flesh and the Spirit (v. 17).
He contrasts the works of the flesh (vv. 19–21) with the fruit of the Spirit (vv. 22–23), directing attention to character and conduct rather than self-promotion.
Verse 25 calls us to keep in step: "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."
